How my journey began

Complex Trauma Survivor | Therapist | Researcher

Amira Y. Trevino, M.Ed., PhD Candidate

“I want to help survivors reclaim their lives. We don’t just have to survive - we can thrive. I’m here to show you how. ”

Amira is a trained mental health professional, researcher, and a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. In her healing journey, she actively sought ways to transmute her pain into strength. She is passionate about reaching others who knows the darkness of trauma and helping them find the light in their lives.

Amira Y. Trevino (she/her)

Amira has a rich cultural background. She was raised in a multi-lingual immigrant and refugee community where she often advocated for her family’s access to resources.

Despite surviving complex trauma, growing up low-income, and being a daughter of immigrants from poor rural backgrounds, Amira went on to pursue a PhD in Counseling Psychology. She aims to use her education and knowledge to make changes in systems that support survivors.

She is grateful for the lessons she has learned during her healing journey and is eager to support others who also are in the journey of reclaiming their lives.

Through welcoming each of us as whole people, she believes that we can begin to embrace aspects of ourselves that were harmed and, ultimately, live a full life.

Amira's lenses of identity/context/power/marginalization feel deeply integrated into all of her work... she helps her clients feel seen, identify various societal oppression that contributes to/creates client suffering, while helping find unique pathways for clients to heal.

Amira Trevino is possibly the most sensitive and knowledgeable professional I know working on critical issues for survivors of trauma. Her professionalism combined with passion to help elevate conversations about persons from multiple, diverse backgrounds and various ways in which trauma affects the mind, body, and spirit make her an exceptional consultant, coach, and research partner. I am excited to continue partnering with her on research that harnesses her vast and vital knowledge to change conversations on personal trauma, injury, and how best to support survivors for continued healing.
